The Alexandria Blizzard climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Minnesota Flying Aces, 6-5.
Alexandria never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Blizzard trailed 5-3 after a goal by Minnesota\’s Jake Mullendore at 18:49 in the second period. Alexandria tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Tom Schmidt at 9:36 in the third period. The Blizzard netted the game winner at 12:34 in the third period on a goal by Schmidt.
Schmidt was all over the ice for Alexandria, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Schmidt scored the first of his two goals at 11:58 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Minnesota. Trent Olson picked up the assist. Schmidt\’s next tally made the score 5-5 with 10:24 left in the third period. Tyler Sworsky assisted on the tally.
The Blizzard forced the Flying Aces goalie Kevin OShea to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Alexandria\’s defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.
Alexandria additionally got points from Luke Pavelich, who also registered one goal and one assist and Gavin Mindt, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Alexandria included Tom Monteiro and Jody Randall, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Kyle Jones, Logan Norman, and Tony Arias, who each chipped in one.
Minnesota surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Flying Aces have scored at the pace of 1.7 goal per game during the current campaign.
Minnesota was led by Bradee Thompson, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Thompson scored the first of his two goals at 3:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minnesota. Tyler Arenz picked up the assist. Thompson\’s next tally made the score 4-2 Minnesota with 16:07 left in the second period. Jack Anderholm provided the assist. Minnesota also got points from Arenz, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Minnesota also got a goal from Ty Ennis as well. More assists for Minnesota came via Colton Jones, who had two and Tyler Leverty, Victor Lombardi, and AJ Gullickson, who contributed one each.
The Blizzard\’s Evan Bisek stopped 19 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Alexandria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. OShea rejected 39 shots on goal for the Flying Aces. Minnesota incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
