Early goals doom Alexandria, falls to North Iowa, 11-3

Alexandria fell behind early, and North Iowa kept piling on the points on the way to an 11-3 victory.

Kohei Sato was all over the ice for North Iowa, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Sato scored the first of his two goals at 14:22 into the first period to make the score 4-0 North Iowa. Jeff Solow picked up the assist. Sato\’s next tally made the score 7-1 North Iowa with 17:33 left in the second period. David Min assisted on the tally.

Alexandria\’s 11 penalties came back to haunt it, as Alexandria let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

North Iowa forced Alexandria\’s goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 39 shots and forcing 28 saves. Joe Hacker made 11 stops and Chance Kremer made 17. North Iowa surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, North Iowa averages 6.4 goals per contest. North Iowa got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. North Iowa could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

North Iowa also got points from Eric Piatt, who also registered one goal and one assist, Daylon De Souza, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Tommy Stang, who also had one goal and two assists, Carmen Dalesandro, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Brett Gravelle, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Min, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Adam Orn also scored for North Iowa. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Mitch Parsons, who had three, Tom Lindgren, Tommy Hall, and Shane Bernhardson, who contributed one each, and Kadin Machusak, Jack Stang, and Marshall Barnes, who each chipped in two.

Alexandria\’s offense rang up 32 shots on North Iowa\’s net. Alexandria could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 52 minutes in penalties during the game.

Others who scored for Alexandria included Nick Altmann, Tyler Frischmon, and David Carey, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alexandria came via Trent Olson, Caleb Anderson, Ryan Marciniak, Trey Greene, and AJ Gullickson, who contributed one each.

David Johnson recorded 29 saves for North Iowa. Alexandria registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
