BLIZZARD OUTSCORE OPPONENTS 14 TO 5 ON THE WEEKEND
Friday was ATCC Foundation Night at the RCC with the Blizzard hosting the Willmar WarHawks. Blake Breiland got the Blizz on the board at the 14:17 mark of the 1st and it was all Blizzard after that. Crutcher and Schmit earned the assists on the opening goal. Reece Hubmer, who has now played in over 100 NA3HL games, netted his first of the night at the 7:51 mark on a play from Waller and Crutcher while adding his second of the night in the final seconds of the 1st period. Boughton and Roness earned the assists on his second goal. Coming off his 1st period assist, Kaden Roness netted his own goal at the 12:39 mark of the second with Benson earning the lone assist. The Blizzard then erupted for 3 quick goals starting with a Thomas Foley goal from Friborg and Carolla, then Ben Carolla netted his own from Collings and Foley before Hubmer earned his hat trick at the 6:17 mark with a play from Waller and Stallman making it 7-0 Blizzard after two periods of play. The WarHawks managed to produce some offense on a late 3rd period power play goal from Domagala to break the shutout. Serene made 20 of 21 saves on the night.
Fans were fired up Saturday with specialty jerseys on Fire-N-Ice night. Mineheine of the Wilderness had a hot start with two opening period goals coming at the 10:24 mark and then at the 5:50 mark before Caden Vos got the Blizzard on the board at the 4:06 mark with Kritzeck and Roness earning the assists. The Wilderness responded making it 3 to 1 late in the 1st on a Norberg goal but Reece Hubmer cut the lead to one with a late period goal on a play from Waller and Stallman. Midway through the 2nd period, Caleb Waller tied the game at 3 with Hubmer and Kritzeck earning the assist on the goal. With a power play opportunity from a hooking call, the Blizzard capitalized to take the lead on a Grady Stallman goal with the assists going to Smidt and Breiland. With a power play carrying over from the 2nd, Waller gave the Blizzard a 2 goal lead on a goal coming from Schmidt and Smidt. Adam Rauser netted a Blizzard goal at the 16:43 mark coming from Breiland and Meyer giving the Blizzard a 6-3 lead with Maas cutting the lead to 2 at the 7:35 mark of the 3rd. Ethan Boughton sealed the victory with an empty net goal at the 3:06 mark and the Blizzard skated to a 7-4 win and a weekend sweep. Ekblad stopped 27 of 31 earning the victory.
