Blizzard Strong Weekend on the Road

Alexandria traveled to Mason City this past weekend and came oh so close to a sweep, winning on Friday 5-2 and falling 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday.
Frida, after a pretty even 1st period the Blizzard scored twice late to take control. Ryan Hadland scored his 3rd of the season with just over two minutes left off assists from Joe Gronholz and Sean Kenny. Cole Klingbeil then scored seven seconds later for his team leading 5th of the year off assists from linemates Ethan Moerke and Justin Wasvick. Gavin Carlson netted his 3rd of the year midway through the 2nd period with assists from Jayden Luck, and Matt Scribner. Mason City came back with a late goal in the 2nd and then pulled to within a goal four minutes into the 3rd period. The Blizzard responded through with Hadland and Klingbeil each scoring their 2nd goals of the game to put the game on ice. Gronholz and Moerke picked up their 2nd assisists. Kyle Abrahamson made 24 saves for his 3rd victory in a row.
Saturday afternoon Hadland and Klingbeil picked up where they left off on Friday staking the Blizzard to a 2-0 lead just six and a half minutes into the game. Caleb Moore and Sean Kenny assisted on Hadland’s power play goal, and Ethan Moerke picked up the assists on Klingbeil’s goal. After Mason City got on the board, Klingbeil scored again, this time on the power play with assists from Wasvick and Karsten Sended. With the score tied 3-3 Hadland scored another power play goal as time expired in the 2nd period. Charlie Larsen and Sean Kenny got the assists. Mason City opened the 3rd period with a shorthanded goal to tie the game back up at 4-4. The scoring dried up after that as the game went all the way to a shootout where the Toros prevailed. The Blizzard outshot Mason City 48-22 but had to settle for 3 out of 4 points on the weekend.
Alexandria (4-1-0-1 9 pts) are home for 3 games this week. Wednesday night against the Loons and then welcome the Toros to the RCC this weekend for a rematch.
