Blizzard Split with Bruins

Oct 23, 2011

ALEXANDRIA, Minn.—Head Coach Doc Delcastillo said momentum shifts once a goal is scored. The Alexandria Blizzard utilized that momentum Friday at home against the Austin Bruins when they put up a 5-1 victory.

Fifty-three seconds into the first period Chris Fischer, a forward for the Bruins, struck first by scoring the Bruins lone goal.

The Blizzard were able to prevent the momentum from shifting to the Bruins when Nick DeCenzo scored at the six minute mark. The rest of the game fell into the Blizzard hands when they capitalized on the momentum and scored two more goals in the first period and a goal in both the second and third period.

Blizzard goalie, Jacob Meyers made 28 saves.

In Austin, the Bruins controlled the first and second period creating a 3-0 lead going into the third period.

Reid Sturos, a forward for the Blizzard, made his debut by scoring two goals for the Blizzard to make it a 2-3 game.

The Blizzard pulled the goalie for a last attempt to tie the score. However, John Kirby of the Bruins sealed the fate with a goal into an empty net finalizing a 4-2 loss for the Blizzard.

Bruins goalie, Tyler Bruggeman made 26 saves.

The Blizzard will host the Aberdeen Wings in the Runestone Community Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
