Blizzard Pick Up Road Win on Saturday

Alexandria made the trip down to New Ulm on Saturday looking get back on track after a loss to Granite City a week earlier.

The Blizzard jumped out to an early lead six minutes into the game when Ryan Hadland skated out front and buried his 13th of the season off an assist from Sean Kenny. Matt McIntyre scored his 9th of the season with assists from Ben Tschida, and Logan Lukasezck giving the Blizzard a 2-0 lead after one. New Ulm got on the board halfway through the 2nd period, but the Blizzard responded a few minutes later on the power play when Cole Klingbeil took a pass from Matt Scribner in his own zone and skated the length of the ice before wristing home his 10th of the year for a 3-1 lead after two. The Steel cut the lead to 3-2 early in the 3rd period, but again the Blizzard responded shortly thereafter when the former Steel Colby Nickel scored his 7th of the season off assists from Erick Sanborn and Ben Tschida. Tschida then added an insurance goal at the midway point of the 3rd with his 6th of the season from out front. McIntyre and Nickel picked up assists. Andrew Tuttle picked up the win in net with 28 saves and an assist on Klingbeil’s goal. Tschida led all scorers with 3 points. Matt McIntyre and Colby Nickel each had 2 point nights.

Alexandria (11-11 – 22 pts) will play in the NA3HL Showcase at the Super Rink in Blaine, MN next week with games Monday the 20th against Long Beach at 7:45 pm; Tuesday the 21st against Texas at 3:00 pm; and Wednesday the 22nd against Wausau at 12:15 pm. Each game will be carried on hockeytv.com
