Blizzard Halted by Bobcats

ALEXANDRIA, Minn.– The Alexandria Blizzard shut-out the Minot Minotauros Friday on the road, but fall prey Saturday to the Bismarck Bobcats on their own ice.

            On Friday, Blizzard goal-tender Jacob Meyers stole the show as he outperformed the Minotauros with 24 saves to create his second shut-out of the season. The Blizzard looked to Jordan Palusky, Seth Ronsberg, Nick DeCenzo and Jack McFarlene to find openings in the net to defeat the Minotauros 4-0.

            On Saturday, the Blizzard challenged the Central Division leaders, the Bobcats, to a thrilling even-matched game. The Bobcats struck first as defenseman, Rory Vesel, scored at the 12:52 mark in the first period.

            With a second left in the first, Blizzard forward Charlie Aus, tied the game by capitalizing on a power-play goal to even-out the score going into the second period. 

            In the second, the goals went back and forth starting with Bobcat forward Tyler Richter.  Blizzard Nick DAvolio matched Richter’s goal at the 8:15 mark generating a 2-2 game.

The Bobcats didn’t sit quite for long as Adam Knochenmus knocked in a goal to pass up the Blizzard for a third time. True to the pattern of the game DAvolio clutched his second goal of the night. With no net action in the third period the Blizzard and Bobcats tied at 3-3 were sent to overtime.

            At the 3:07 mark in overtime Bobcat Castan Sommer used a screen shot to get the puck in the net and leave the Blizzard defeated 4-3.

            The Blizzard will face-off Wednesday against the Coulee Region Chill at 7 p.m. in the Omni Center.

            The Aberdeen Wings will enter the Runestone Community Center on Friday as the puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The Blizzard also host the Austin Bruins Saturday in the RCC at 7:30 p.m.

            The Blizzard are giving thanks to their fans by promoting the Thanksgiving Bundle. The bundle includes purchasing Friday night’s game at the regular price ticket and receiving Saturday night’s ticket at half price.
