ALEXANDRIA, Minn—The Alexandria Blizzard prove to be thankful as they wrap up Thanksgiving break with three consecutive wins and lift to second place in the Central Division standings.
With his third of the season, the term shut-out is starting to become a common word in Blizzard goaltender, Jacob Meyers, vocabulary. Meyers saved 27 out of 27 shots on goal during Wednesday night’s match-up against the Coulee Region Chill at the Omni Center.
The Blizzard produced a 4-0 win over the Chill with the help from scorers Tucker Coborn, Jordan Kresbach, Justin Moody and Nick DAvolio.
Black Friday lit up as the Blizzard hosted the Aberdeen Wings in the Runestone Community Center. The Wings struck first as forward, Joseph Sullivan, scored a power-play goal late in the first period.
It wasn’t until the second period that the Blizzard started to brew with the help of Reid Sturos, Blizzard forward, placing the puck in the net and tying the game 1-1 going into the third period.
The Blizzard dominated in the third as defenseman, Charlie Aus, scored just 36 seconds into the period. Forward, Nick DeCenzo, secured a third goal for the Blizzard at the 2:02 mark. Jack McFarlene sealed the Wings fate as he scored in an empty net to defeat the Wings 4-1.
Saturday night’s contest between the Blizzard and the previously second ranked team in the Central Division, the Austin Bruins, ignited quickly as Aus scored for the Blizzard 58 seconds into the first period.
The first period proved to be action packed for the Blizzard. Within the 5:27 mark both defensemen Jordan Kresbach and forward Jordan Palusky separately scored creating a 3-0 lead over the Bruins.
The Bruins, however, refused to roll over as forward, Brandon Wahlin, scored at the 7:21 mark to close out the first period.
The second period settled and remained quiet until the Blizzard saw potential from their defensemen, Brandon Parker, who scored his first goal of the season to wrap up the period.
The Blizzard would go on to win 5-2 letting a goal in from Bruins, CJ Smith, and scoring a goal by forward, Nick DAvolio, in the third period. The Blizzard not only defeated the Bruins, but also surpassed them in the Central Division standings.
It won’t be long for the Blizzard to reunite with the Bruins as they meet at center ice in the Runestone Community Center Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Blizzard will then travel Saturday to the Riverside Arena in Austin to wrap up the series at 7:05 p.m.
