Blizzard Clip the Wings

Oct 17, 2011

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — The Alexandria Blizzard escaped thin ice this weekend as they clutched two wins over the Aberdeen Wings.

In Aberdeen, The Blizzard started off strong with a 3-0 lead going into the third period. The Wings fought back in the third scoring two goals, but fell short, 2-3, to the Blizzard as the final buzzer went off.

On Saturday, the Runestone Community Center packed in for the Blizzard home-opener. After a scoreless first period, the Blizzard lit up the arena by scoring back to back goals followed by a power play goal to once again make it a 3-0 lead over the Wings.

The Wings reacted to the Blizzard by scoring their first goal late in the second period. They then dominated the third period as they put in a second goal off of a power play opportunity. With 1:03 left in the period, the Wings scored again to tie up the game and send it into overtime.

The Blizzard will then head to the Riverside Arena Saturday in Austin; face-off is at 7:05 p.m.
