Alexandria uses big second period to beat Breezy Point, 8-4

Alexandria used a three-goal second period to put away Breezy Point, 8-4.

Alexandria got the win on the strength of a great game by Louis Gerzin, who had one goal and two assists. Gerzin scored 13:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tony Arias assisted on the tally.

Alexandria pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 47 penalty minutes.

Alexandria forced Breezy Point\’s goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 51 shots and forcing 43 saves. Dylan Barnes made 41 stops and Wes Paupore made two. Alexandria found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Alexandria averages 4.0 goals per contest.

Alexandria additionally got points from Tyler Frischmon, who also finished with one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Arias, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and AJ Gullickson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alexandria also had goals scored by Caleb Anderson, who had two and Jack Mellstrom and David Carey, who each put in one. More assists for Alexandria came via Trent Olson, who had two, Logan Norman, who had three, and Dawson Ellingsworth and Jack Cernohous, who each chipped in one.

Breezy Point forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Breezy Point had been spending in the box.
