LATE WALLER GOAL PROVIDES EXCITING S/O FOR BLIZZARD FRIDAY NIGHT
The Alexandria Blizzard made the short trip to Granite City to face the Lumberjacks Friday night in a back and forth battle. Caleb Waller got the Blizzard on the board first at the 16:12 mark with Stallman and Randt earning the assist. Granite tied the game midway through the 1st period before Thomas Foley regained the lead for the Blizzard late in the period on a play from Benson and Kritzech. Both teams were unable to produce much offense in the middle period but Granite opened the 3rd with a goal at the 18:00 mark bringing the game to a 2-2 tie. Reece Hubmer made it 3-2 with Boughton and Meyer earning the assists before the Lumberjacks answered with two goals of their own to take a 4-3 lead late into the game. At the 1:24 mark of the 3rd, Caleb Waller got the equalizer from Schmit and Stallman to force overtime. OT wasn’t enough to settle the match and Reece Hubmer earned the S/O victory for the Blizzard in the 6th round with Easton Schmit also scoring in the 5th round. Serene stopped 29 of 33 in the victory.
Back at home Saturday night, the Blizzard hosted division leading Minnesota Moose. Grady Stallman put the Blizzard up 1-0 at the 15:18 mark of the 1st period with Waller and Randt earning the assist. The Moose earned a late period PPG to make it 1-1 at the end of 20 minutes. Blake Breiland wasted no time in the middle period netting a goal at the 17:42 mark from Johnson and Boughton to regain the lead for the Blizzard. With another power play chance, the Moose were able to tie the game once again at the 12:41 mark of the 3rd period with the Blizzard quickly responding with a Grady Stallman goal to regain the lead on a play from Randt and Boughton. The Moose were able to apply pressure in the final minutes of the game and scored at the 5:37 mark with the game winner coming at the 3:02 mark of the 3rd for the Moose. Serene stopped 28 of 32 SOG in the loss for the Blizzard.
