BLIZZARD OUTSCORE MASON CITY 13 to 2 TO EARN SWEEP
The Alexandria Blizzard lost no momentum coming off their sweep at the NA3HL Showcase with the first games since a short holiday break. Jack Carter started the scoring for the Blizzard halfway through the 1st period with Parker Anthony and Eli Paloranta getting the helpers. Once again, it wasn’t until the middle of the 2nd period that the Blizzard found some offense. Reece Hubmer netted a power play goal on a play from Ashton Collings and Aiden Prohaska to make it 2-0 and Joe Gronholz beat the Toros netminder a few minutes later to make it 3-0 Blizzard going into the 3rd period on a play from Markus Olson and Colin Becker. The Blizzard were able to put away Mason City in the 3rd with Eli Fletcher scoring 3 minutes into the period with Reece Hubmer and Justin Wasvick getting the assist with Jack Dube scoring 10 minutes later on a play from Aiden Prohaska and Ashton Collings. With 5 minutes left in the game, Eli Fletcher netted his 18th goal of the year on the power play with Tyler Kludt and Matt Scribner getting the assists and Jake Dube got his second of the night shortly after on a play from Aiden Prohaska and Chris Fotopoulos to make it 7-0 Blizzard. Shots on goal were 48 to 23 in favor of the Blizzard with Nolan LaCosse earning the shutout.
The 4 goal 3rd period from Friday night carried over to Saturday as the Blizzard came out strong with 2 power play and 2 even strength goals. Markus Olson opened the scoring on a power play for the Blizzard on a play from Ashton Collings and Reece Humber with Justin Wasvick doubling the lead a few seconds later on another power play goal with Joe Gronholz and Matt Scribner getting the assist. 2 minutes later Jack Dube tallied another goal on the weekend making it 3-0 Blizzard with Ashton Collings and Chris Fotopoulos getting the helpers. After a cross checking call on the Toros and fight with Jack Carter, the Blizzard once again found themselves on the power play and Eli Fletcher took advantage with Justin Wasvick and Tyler Kludt earning the assist to make it 4-0 after the 1st period. The lone goal in the 2nd period came in the final seconds as Aiden Prohaska once again made the Toros pay with the man advantage with Reece Hubmer and Nolan LaCosse on the assist. Matt Scribner opened the 3rd period on an unassisted goal with Mason City finally beating LaCosse halfway through the 3rd period on a Thomas goal followed by another Toro goal a few minutes later, this time from Schauer making it 6-2 Blizzard. Shots on goal were 51 to 25 in favor of the Blizzard with Nolan LaCosse stopping 46 of 48 shots on the weekend.
