xAlexandria beats xTwin City 5-4 after comeback scare

The xTwin City Steel tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the xAlexandria Blizzard held on for a 5-4 victory.

xAlexandria took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have xTwin City storm back on a Jace Childs goal 19:21 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

In a losing effort, the Steel were led by Mathias Ahman, who had two goals and one assist. Ahman scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:48 into the second period to make the score 4-2 xAlexandria. xTwin City had taken the advantage when the Blizzard\’s Mitch Krafcheck got sent off for tripping. Childs assisted on the tally. Ahman\’s next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 xAlexandria with 5:34 left in the third period. The Steel earned a power play opportunity when Drake Hunter was put in the box for slashing. Calvin Miska picked up the assist.

xAlexandria kept xTwin City\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson Germaine made 26 saves on 31 shots. The Blizzard could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

xAlexandria was helped by Bo Gronseth, who racked up one goal and one assist. Gronseth scored 6:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 xAlexandria. Joe Anderson assisted on the tally. xAlexandria additionally got points from Anderson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Danny Pelzer, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for xAlexandria included Tom Schmidt and Nate Mettenburg, who scored one goal each. In addition, xAlexandria received assists from Garrett Skinner, who had three and Gavin Mindt and Aaron Ryback, who contributed two a piece.

The Steel\’s defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

xTwin City also got points from Childs, who also had one goal and one assist. xTwin City also got a goal from Ben Ihrie as well. More assists for xTwin City came via Jon Plaszcz, Tanner Duffney, Isaac Hale, and Sam Basich, who each chipped in one.

Evan Bisek recorded 19 saves for the Blizzard. xAlexandria registered one goal on two power play opportunities. xTwin City incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
