The game between the xAlexandria Blizzard and the Breezy Point North Stars was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end xAlexandria emerged with a 4-2 win.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Mick Dhein\’s goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
Bo Gronseth was all over the ice for the Blizzard, as he racked up two goals in the win. Gronseth found the back of the net 9:35 into the third period to make the score 2-1 xAlexandria and again while 19:30 into the third to make the score 4-2 xAlexandria.
xAlexandria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Breezy Point to score on any of its four power plays. The Blizzard forced the North Stars goalie Joey Bergquist to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.
Aaron Ryback also scored for xAlexandria. In addition, xAlexandria received assists from Ian Ecklund, who had two and Trent Olson, Joe Anderson, Danny Pelzer, and Levi Erickson, who contributed one a piece.
Breezy Point was helped by Nick Johnsen, who tallied one goal. Johnsen scored 1:33 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Crosby Steen picked up the assist. Breezy Point also got a goal from Russel Barone as well. Other players who recorded assists for Breezy Point were Benji Smieja and Nick Manney, who each chipped in one.
xAlexandria\’s Evan Bisek stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Blizzard incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Joey Bergquist made 41 saves for the North Stars on 44 shots. Breezy Point incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
