 Blizzard Pick Up Road Win in New Ulm

The Alexandria Blizzard traveled to New Ulm Friday night and came away with a 5-3 victory. Austin McNeil gave the Blizzard a 1-0 lead about halfway through the 1st period with Cole Jacobs and Kaden Peterson picking up the assists. New Ulm scored late in the first for a 1-1 score after one. Colin Tushie scored a minute and a half into the 2nd period with assists from Jacobs and Cole Lehmann, but New Ulm came back again to tie the game at 2-2 at the 8:26 mark. The Blizzard took control late in the second with goals from Sean Kenny, and Cole Klingbeil for a 4-2 lead after two. Kenny extended the Blizzard lead early in the third period on the power play, with his second goal of the game and 3rd of the season. Lehmann and Strong picked up the assists. New Ulm pulled got one back at the 8:01 mark of the third, but couldn’t get any closer. The Blizzard outshot the Steel 35-29 and went 1/5 on the power play. Cole Lehmann picked up 3 assists. Sean Kenny, Caleb Strong, and Cole Jacobs each had 2 point nights and Bailey Rosch stopped 26 of 29 shots to improve his record to 3-1-0-1

No Treats for the Blizzard on Halloween

Saturday night the Blizzard were back home to host the Granite City Lumberjacks in a back and forth battle until late in the 3rd when Granite City pulled away for a 6-3 victory. The Lumberjacks led 2-0 after one, when the Blizzard began to shift the momentum carrying much of the play in the second period outshooting Granite City 19-8. Cole Lehmann got Alexandria on the board with a power play goal at the 15:25 mark with assists from Sean Kenny and Nikolai Rajala. Austin McNeil tied the game for the Blizzard 1:41 into the third with his 5th of the season. Colin Tushie and Cole Jacobs assisted McNeil, but the Lumberjacks answered within a minute for a 3-2 lead. Cole Jacobs tied the game back up for the Blizzard with his 2nd of the year at the 11:37 mark, but Granite City was awarded a controversial goal a minute later in what appeared to be two saves by Joey Geilich, but a goal was awarded to Granite City. The Lumberjacks tacked on two more goals to seal the win. Colin Tushie and Cole Jacobs each had tallied 2 points in the tough loss.

Alexandria (5-3-1 – 11 pts) is in 2nd Place in the West one point ahead of Granite City (5-1-0-0 – 10 pts) who they will host again on Friday night. The puck drops at 7:10 CDT.
