FLETCHER SCORES 13th OF SEASON TO SEND TEDDY BEARS FLYING

Blizzard fans got a taste of winter this weekend as they ventured out to the RCC Saturday as the Blizzard looked to take care of the MN Loons once again this season. The Loons started the 1st period strong beating Aidan Petrich with a Fawcett goal at the 6:11 mark and quickly responding to an Eli Fletchers “Teddy Bear” goal at the 11:24 mark with a Couture goal at the 12:40 mark to regain a one goal lead. It was Teddy Bear Toss Night at the RCC and with Eli’s 13th goal of the season, fans tossed their teddy bears onto the RCC ice which were collected by Blizzard and AAHA players to be donated. Shortly after the ice was cleared it was all Blizzard as Justin Wasvick scored at the 14:40 mark on a play from Fletcher and Gronholz followed by a Matt Scribner goal from Fotopoulos and Dube at the 17:19 mark. Less than a minute later, Parker Anthony netted the “Cheeseburger” goal sending the Blizzard to the locker room with a 4-2 lead on a play from Kludt and Senden.

While the 2nd period didn’t produce much offense for either side, the penalty box wasn’t vacant for long with 14 penalties being called on both teams. At the 19:10 mark of the second, Justin Wasvick scored his second of the night to make it a 5-2 game with Gronholz and Kludt getting the assist. Following the theme from the 2nd, the penalty box was once again well occupied as both teams failed to build any flow or momentum with the final buzzer sounding for a 5-2 Blizzard win.

Blizzard will make a short trip south to visit the Granite City LumberJacks this Friday for an important battle with the NA3HL Showcase starting up Sunday when they take on the El Paso Rhinos at the Super Rink in Blaine. Find your Showcase info here!
