Voss’ goals lift Granite City to 4-1 victory over Alexandria

Zach Voss had two goals to lead the Granite City Lumberjacks to a 4-1 victory over the Alexandria Blizzard.

Voss\’ tallies came at 14:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and 14:30 into the second to make the score 2-0 Granite City.

Granite City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Lumberjacks had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Granite City\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Alexandria power plays. The Lumberjacks kept Alexandria\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Elmore made 27 saves on 31 shots.

Jared Sprink also scored for Granite City. In addition, Granite City received assists from Spencer Nelson, Luke Richardson, Tanner Skaja, Adam Marty, Tobias Gabrielsen, and Alek Groth, who each chipped in one.

The Blizzard\’s penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. Alexandria surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blizzard could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Alexandria puts an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game.

The Blizzard were led by Kolton Aubol, who scored the team\’s only goal. Aubol scored 18:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Kyle Jones picked up the assist.

Jesse Garcia made 18 saves for Granite City on 19 shots. The Lumberjacks registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Alexandria ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nathan Scofield was ejected from the game.
