The Twin City Steel came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the xAlexandria Blizzard, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.
Twin City led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Steel\’s Calvin Miska\’s scored at 5:23 in the second period to put Twin City up 4-1.
Sam Basich was all over the ice for the Steel, as he finished with two goals in the win. Basich\’s tallies came at 15:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Twin City and 2:38 into the second to make the score 3-1 Twin City.
xAlexandria was unable to stop Twin City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Steel eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Twin City struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 46 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.
Joonas Huovinen also scored for Twin City. More assists for Twin City came via Jace Childs, who had three and Dylan Lincoln and Chase Myers-Beck, who each chipped in one.
The Blizzard stifled the Steel\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. xAlexandria did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blizzard average 4.8 goals per game. xAlexandria kept Twin City\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson Germaine made 33 saves on 35 shots. The Blizzard\’s penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as xAlexandria finished with 22 penalty minutes.
The Blizzard were helped by Tom Schmidt, who tallied one goal. Schmidt scored 18:33 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Twin City. Mitch Krafcheck provided the assist. xAlexandria also got a goal from Ian Ecklund as well. Other players who recorded assists for xAlexandria were Zach Kihle, Garrett Skinner, and Aammir Freese, who contributed one a piece.
The Steel registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Twin City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jon Plaszcz was ejected from the game. Kyle Miller recorded 27 saves for xAlexandria.
