Brey Effertz came up big, stopping 26 of 28 shots throughout the game. The Alexandria Blizzard took the lead before the halfway point in the third on a goal from Tosten Mann.
In the first period, Bowe opened the scoring for Alexandria with a goal at 9:27 with helpers from teammates Lindfors and Roen.
In the second, Leivermann answered for New Ulm with a goal at 9:49 with assists from Martinez and Mickelson.
During the third period, Giller answered for the Blizzard with a goal at 3:19 with helpers from Gustafson and Carey. Campbell answered for the Steel with a goal at 8:41 with assists from Egle and Witta. Mann quickly followed with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 10:12 with helpers from Anderson and Ellingworth.
Alexandria’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Effertz’s big night as he stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced. Effertz’s counterpart, Siclovan, also had a big night, managing to stop 34 of 37, but ultimately fell short.
