BLIZZARD GO 1-2 OVER THE WEEKEND WITH SERENE EARNING SHUTOUT
The Alexandria Blizzard fell by a score of 6-3 on Friday at the RCC to the Granite City Lumberjacks. Caleb Waller opened the scoring with a breakaway goal midway through the first period. Granite City would answer late in the first period to tie the game. Jack Dube would put the Blizzard back in the lead 8 minutes into the 2nd period. The Blizzard added another goal by Jack Carter to make the lead 3-1 until the Lumberjacks scored five unanswered goals in the game’s final five minutes. Kyle Abrahamson stopped 41 shots in the loss.
The Blizzard rebounded on Saturday night by defeating the Minnesota Moose by a score of 4-0. After a scoreless 1st period the Blizzard notched a pair of 2nd period goals score by Mario Bernard and Reece Hubmer to lead 2-0 after the 2nd period. Hubmer added his 2nd of the game midway through the 3rd period and Blizzard assistant captain Jack Carter iced the game late in the 3rd with a breakaway goal to make the score 4-0. Jayden Serene picked up his first career shutout and making 26 saves.
The Blizzard traveled to Rochester on Sunday for an afternoon makeup game with the Grizzlies. Ashton Collings scored as a power play ended for the Blizzard to put them up 1-0 in the 1st period. The Grizzlies would score twice at the end of the 1st to lead 2-1. Kaden Roness would tie the score at 2-2 midway through the 2nd period. The 3rd period saw back and forth action. Rochester took the lead early in the 3rd however Jack Carter answered less than 2 minutes later to tie the score at 3-3. Rochester would score the eventual game winning goal with less than 8 minutes remaining. Kyle Abrahamson stopped 28 shots in the loss.
