With time running out, Cole Lehmann salvaged the Alexandria Blizzard’s road trip this past weekend.

After 60 minutes of hockey on Saturday, the Blizzard and the Rochester Grizzlies needed five more to declare a winner. Lehmann received a pass from Caleb Strong and beat goaltender Sean Guerin for the win.

Strong, a senior for Alexandria Area High School this winter, had three points on the night. He scored the game-tying goal in the third period that would eventually send the game into overtime. He also assisted on Ike Taraszewski’s goal midway through the first period.

Rochester had a big night from Matthew DeRosa. His two second-period goals gave the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead.

Ville Hyttinen did enough in goal to get his third win of the season. He made 29 saves on 32 shots as the Blizzard improved to 7-5-1-1. They currently sit in fifth place in the West Division standings. Rochester is now in second place in the Central Division with a record of 11-4-1-0.

Saturday night’s win came after a tough loss on Friday night in Willmar. After the Blizzard scored three second-period goals, Trent Sylvester tied the game five minutes before the intermission. The Warhawks went on to beat the Blizzard in a shootout.

Carter Rieland had a goal and an assist in the loss. Bailey Rosch started in net for the Blizzard, making 28 saves on 31 shots.

The final two games of the road trip are against the Coulee Region Chill this weekend. The Chill are third in the Central Division with a 10-5-0-0 record.
