Granite Too Much for Blizzard

Jan 17, 2022

Alexandria played a home and home series with Granite City over the weekend but were beaten in both games as the Lumberjacks ran their winning streak to 26 games with a 9-2 victory on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday.

Friday night the Blizzard hosted Granite City and had their hands full falling behind 6-1 after the 1st period. The lone highlight was Eric Sanborn’s 3rd of the year off a nice rush up the ice and scoring as he was drawing a penalty. Justin Wasvick and Ethan Moerke picked up the assists. Another highlight was Sean Kenny scoring on the power play in the 3rd period off a nice feed from Matt McIntyre and Kaden Peterson, but it was too much Granite City in a 9-2 loss.

Alexandria fared much better Saturday on the road but still couldn’t solve the Lumberjacks in a 5-2 loss. The Blizzard scored first thanks to Ryan Hadland’s 18th of the season from Sean Kenny and Kyle Mischke, but Granite City answered with 3 goals to end the period. Kaden Peterson scored the lone 2nd period goal on the power play to give the Blizzard hope trailing just 3-2 heading into the 3rd. Hadland and Kenny assisted on Peterson’s 6th of the year. Granite City controlled the 3rd period though tacking on two more to complete the sweep. Andrew Tuttle stood tall in net with 44 saves in the loss.

Alexandria (15-14-1 – 31 pts) remain in 4th place and will host the Minnesota Loons Wednesday night at 7:10 pm. Click the Tickets tab above for tickets or watch the games on hockeytv.com
