Granite City boosted by Goor’s play in net, beats Alexandria 2-1

Robbie Goor had a standout game with 25 saves, and Granite City beat Alexandria 2-1.

Granite City was paced by Mathew Sprink, who finished with one goal. Sprink scored 17:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Casey Esselman assisted on the tally.

Granite City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alexandria to score on any of its five power plays. Granite City was held below its usual level of production. Granite City averages 4.3 goals per game.

Tommy Giller also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Tanner Skaja and Matt Flom, who each chipped in one.

Alexandria excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Alexandria was led by David Carey, who scored the team\’s only goal. Carey scored 9:08 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Jack Mellstrom picked up the assist.

Granite City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Alexandria\’s Brey Effertz stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Alexandria incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
