Alexandria has advanced to the semi-finals of the Fraser Cup Championship after winning both games of their preliminary pool play.
The Blizzard beat the Texas Brahmas on Wednesday by a score of 4-1. Ryan Hadland scored about 8 minutes into the game off an assist from Sean Kenny. Wyatt Johnson extended the Blizzard lead to 2-0 five minutes into the 2nd period off another assist from Kenny. Cole Klingbeil made it 3-0 a few minutes later with assists from Justin Wasvick and Calvin Knight. Justin Kingery scored late in the 2nd for a 4-0 Blizzard lead after two. Matt McIntyre and Jameson O’Flynn got the assists on Kingery’s goal. Konrad Kausch made 15 saves in the win.
The Blizzard met Granite City on Thursday to close out their pool play and captured the top seed with a 3-1 victory. After a scoreless 1st period, Alexandria broke through with 2 late 2ndperiod goals to take control. Joe Gronholz took a pass from Jack Whitmore in front and deked out Ryan Lehet to put the Blizzard on the board. Matt Scribner started the play by lobbing the puck through the neutral zone where Gronholz broke in alone and shot wide before Whitmore recovered the puck and set him up in front. Moments later Matt McIntyre led a 3 on 1 up the ice and held onto the puck until he found Justin Kingery on the far post for a 2-0 lead heading into the 3rd period. Granite City got on the board early in the 3rd but Ryan Hadland responded with his 2ndgoal of the tournament off a nice feed from Sean Kenny to restore the 2 goal lead. Konrad Kausch stood strong throughout the rest of the 3rd and finished with 25 saves for the victory.
