The Alexandria Blizzard earned two crucial points in the battle for the fourth spot in the West Division with a 6-3 win over Granite City on Friday night.
The Blizzard (17-18-2-1) came into the game with a three-game losing streak and tied for the final playoff spot in the division with the Willmar Warhawks 37 points. Granite City (32-9-0-0) is tied for first place with 64 points.
Alexandria scored the first three goals of the game. Wesley Johnson broke the tie midway through the first period before Brandon Connett and Michal Trejbal scored in the first five minutes of the second.
After Granite City’s Ryan Pogue cut into the lead before the intermission, Nolan Westera and Connett scored the fourth and fifth goals to put the game away in the third period. Ville Hyttinen made 31 saves to earn his 10th win of the season.
