The xAlexandria Blizzard were firing on all cylinders against the Breezy Point North Stars, and when the final buzzer sounded Blizzard emerged with a 10-0 win.
Mick Dhein was all over the ice for xAlexandria, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Dhein scored the first of his two goals short handed at 18:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 xAlexandria. The Blizzard played down a man on Christian Canavati\’s tripping. Drake Hunter picked up the assist. Dhein\’s next tally short handed made the score 10-0 xAlexandria with 49 seconds left in the third period. xAlexandria had gotten the advantage when Breezy Point\’s Mitch Pierson was sent off for roughing. Aaron Ryback provided the assist.
The Blizzard\’s penalty kill excelled, as xAlexandria gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.
The Blizzard forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. xAlexandria surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blizzard stifled the North Stars\’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. xAlexandria forced Breezy Point goalie Troy Pierce to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. The Blizzard surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, xAlexandria averages 5.0 goals per contest.
xAlexandria also got points from Ian Ecklund, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Joe Anderson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jody Randall, who also had one goal and one assist, Nate Mettenburg, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Hunter, who also had one goal and two assists. Garrett Skinner also scored for xAlexandria. More assists for xAlexandria came via Bo Gronseth, who had two and Tanner Elmore, Trent Olson, Danny Pelzer, Mitch Krafcheck, Tom Schmidt, and Gavin Mindt, who contributed one a piece.
The North Stars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Breezy Point puts an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game.
Tanner Elmore made 23 saves for the Blizzard on 23 shots. xAlexandria registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Blizzard ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Carriveau was ejected from the game. Pierce recorded 39 saves for the North Stars. Breezy Point ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major.
