Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Breezy Point defeated Alexandria in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).
The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. Breezy Point also got a shootout goal from Ryan Mezera.
Breezy Point came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Breezy Point was down 2-1 after a goal by Alexandria\’s Caleb Anderson at 11:30 in the second period. Breezy Point knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Nick Blanchette at 14:40 in the third period.
Breezy Point put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alexandria to score on any of its four power plays. Breezy Point\’s offense rang up 52 shots on Alexandria\’s net. Breezy Point got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.
Breezy Point also got a goal from Sean Viti as well. More assists for Breezy Point came via Austin Langworthy, who had one and Christian Lenzmeier, who had two.
Alexandria forced Breezy Point goalie Christian Sanzottera to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.
Alexandria was helped by Connor Nilson, who finished with one goal. Nilson scored 6:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Jack Cernohous assisted on the tally. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Logan Norman, who had one.
Breezy Point\’s Sanzottera stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Breezy Point incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Joe Hacker recorded 49 saves for Alexandria. Alexandria incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. For Alexandria, Mason Hautala was ejected from the game.
