BLIZZARD WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON GET SET FOR PLAYOFFS

Mar 6, 2023

Alexandria closed out the regular season with a win a loss and an overtime loss this past weekend.
Friday the Blizzard hosted Granite City in their home finale, and got blanked 3-0.
Saturday the Blizzard traveled to Mason City in hopes of gaining some momentum before playoffs, but they surrendered two late leads and lost in overtime by a score of 5-4. After trailing 1-0 after the 1st period, Alexandria responded with a two goal 2nd period for a 2-1 lead after two. Calvin Knight scored his 2nd with the Blizzard off an assist from Jackson Ekblad and then minutes later Jameson O’ Flynn scored his 4th with the Blizzard on the power play from Joe Gronholz and Ashton Collings. The Toros tied the game at 3-3 early in the 3rd before Gronholz put the Blizzard back on top midway through, off a nice 2 on 1 with Hayden Demars. After the Toros again tied the game, it was Demars scoring a shorthanded goal for 4-3 lead with under 3 minutes to play. But the Toros scored on the power play in the final minute and then sealed the victory two minutes into overtime. Gronholz, Demars, Eckblad, and Collings all had 2 point nights. Kyle Abrahamson took the loss in net.
Sunday the Blizzard wrapped up the season with a strong 4-0 shutout against the Toros. Jack Whitmore and Michael DeBrito scored 1st period goals, and Ryan Hadland, and Justin Wasvick added insurance with goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods respectively. Matt Scribner, Hadland, and DeBrito each had 2 point nights and Kyle Abrahamson slammed the door with 25 saves and his 3rd shutout of the season.
