Blizzard Week in Review

Alexandria picked up a big OT win on Saturday night in New Ulm to cap off a grueling three game week.

On Wednesday night they hosted Willmar and fell 6-1 to the Warhawks. Willmar took control with three goals in the first, and led 5-0 before the Blizzard broke through on the power play to get on the board. Nikolai Rajala notched his 12th point when he scored his 2nd of the season tipping in a shot from Cole Lehmann who picked up his 5th assist and 10th point of the year. Caleb Strong picked up the second assist for his team leading 18th point.

The Blizzard hit the road over the weekend traveling to North Iowa and New Ulm. On Friday they lost to North Iowa by a score of 5-2. Much like Wednesday the Blizzard fell behind before getting on the scoreboard with two late power play goals. Trailing 5-0 in the third period Logan Stellmach scored his 1st of the season with Ben Tschida and Wyatt Johnson getting the assists. Then Sean Kenny scored his 5th of the year with Andrew Revering and Kaden Peterson on the assists.

Saturday night saw the Blizzard salvage the weekend with an OT winner in New Ulm. Alexandria came alive in the third after trailing 2-0 entering the period. Five minutes in Caleb Strong scored his 10 of the season on assists from Wyatt Johnson and Colin Tushie. Moments later, Austin McNeil tied the game with his 7th of the year from Logan Stellmach and Cole Jacobs. Carter Rieland gave the Blizzard their first lead at 3-2, two minutes later with his 4th of the year assisted by Dallas Duckson and Andrew Revering. New Ulm forced overtime though, scoring with just under three minutes to play. Cole Jacobs buried the game winner two minutes into OT giving the Blizzard a much needed 4-3 victory. Austin McNeil and Revering assisted on Jacobs 4th of the year. Caleb Strong leads the team with 19 points (10G 9A). Jacobs is tied for 2nd on the team in scoring with 14 points. Jacobs has 8 points (2G 6A) in 4 games against New Ulm, while his line mate Austin McNeil has 7 points (5G 2A) against the Steel. Andrew Revering is tied with Jacobs for 2nd on the team with 10 assists.

The Blizzard will plan for another three game week. They play at Willmar on Friday the 29th, and thene host Granite City on Saturday the 30th with a 7:10 puck drop both nights. They’ll close out the weekend on Sunday the 31st with a 5 pm puck drop at Granite City. Catch all the action on hockeytv.com.
