ALEXANDRIA, Minn.– After a shoot-out loss to the Bismarck Bobcats on Friday, the Alexandria Blizzard came back swinging with a knock out road win Saturday at the VFW Sport Center.
In Alexandria, true to the rivalry pattern, it was a back and forth game starting with a quick goal from the Bobcats late in the first period.
To answer for the Blizzard was Grand Forks, N.D. native Justin Moody who got one past Bobcat goaltender Tommy Burke to tie up the game for a short period of time before the Bobcats scored again.
With the Bobcats leading 2-1 in the second, Blizzard Captain Thomas Williams scored closing up the gap to end the period tied at 2’s. After both a scoreless third period and overtime, the game was settled in a shoot-out as the Bobcats gained another shoot-out win (2-0) over the Blizzard with a 3-2 defeat.
In Bismarck, the Bobcats were no match for the Blizzard who were out on vengeance to even the score. Seth Ronsberg lead off for the Blizzard with the sole goal in the last seconds of the first period.
In the second, defensemen Dylan Zink got the puck rolling with a power-play goal at the 9:24 mark.
On the defense, Castan Sommer scored the Bobcats only goal to trail the Blizzard 1-2.
Ronsberg, scoring his second goal of the evening, put the momentum back in the Blizzard territory at the 15:27 mark to increase the Blizzard lead 3-1.
In the third, with less then two minutes of play under way, Gage Torrel snuck another Blizzard goal past Burke. Matt Youso finalized a 5-1 victory with an empty net goal to shut-down the Bobcats.
On Friday, the Blizzard will travel to Minot to take on the Minotauros at 7:35 p.m. in the Maysa Arena before heading back to the Runestone Community Center for Parent’s Night on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the Blizzard will play host to the Austin Bruins for the last time of regular season play. The puck will drop at 5 p.m.
