SATURDAYS MATCHUP WITH GRANITE CITY HAD A TOTAL OF 61 PENALTY MINUTES
On a game that had bouncing pucks and multiple trips to the penalty box, the Blizzard faced an uphill battle as the LumberJacks scored just 2 minutes into the game on an Ericksen goal and doubled their lead 5 minutes later on a Brennan goal. It wasn’t until the final seconds of the period that the Blizzard were able to produce some offense on a Tyler Kludt goal to cut the lead in half, Fotopoulos and Olsen got the assist on the lone 1st period goal.
The penalties started to multiply in the 2nd with Granite City adding 2 goals, with Lesser and Portner beating LaCosse. Unable to connect on the PP, the Blizzard entered the 3rd period down 1-4 with Granite City added 2 quick goals midway through the period scoring 15 seconds apart thanks to a period played mostly shorthanded by the Blizzard. On a great play from Ethan Boughton and Justin Wasvick, Eli Fletcher was able to beat Schowalter on a rush for the Blizzards 2nd goal. In all, the game had 22 penalties called for a total of 61 minutes and the Blizzard were unable to find any rhythm offensively. Shots on goal were 28 to 52 in favor of Granite City.
The Blizzard hit the road this coming Friday on a short trip to Breezy Point before returning to the RCC to host the Willmar WarHawks. Puck drop is 7:10P this Saturday and tickets can be found at tickets.alexandriablizzard.com with Saturdays game being Military Appreciation Night sponsored by the Alexandria VFW and Douglas Machine.
