Alexandria made their one game count on Saturday night as they took down Granite City 4-1 in front of a raucous crowd at the RCC.
The Blizzard started fast scoring four minutes into the game. Wyatt Johnson picked off a pass at center ice and fed Ashton Collings who skated in and fired a wrist shot off the glove of Lumberjack goaltender Ryan Lehet. Joe Gronholz was there to clean up the rebound for his 9th of the season. About 10 minutes later Ethan Moerke came flying down the right wing and wired a wrist shot high glove side for a 2-0 Blizzard lead. Matt Scribner and Ashton Collings assisted on Moerke’s 4th of the season. Granite City opened up the 2nd period with a quick goal, but the Blizzard responded with two more goals from Ashton Collings. Moerke and Gronholz set up Collings 2nd of the season at the 8 minute mark, and then Gronholz forced a turnover high in the offensive zone and then fed Collings who beat Lehet high on the stick side for a 4-1 Blizzard lead after two. Alexandria held Granite City to just 5 shots on net in the 3rd handing the Lumberjacks their first loss in regulation. Collings led all scorers with 4 points (2G, 2A) Gronholz stayed hot with 3 more points (1G, 2A) and Moerke had a multi-point game (1G, 1A). Kyle Abrahamson came up big all night long with 32 saves to improve to 5-2-0-1 on the year.
