The Alexandria Blizzard ran into a perennially-tough Granite City team over the weekend and dropped two games, including the home opener on Friday night.

Alexandria (3-3) kept things closer at the Runestone Community Center but fell in a 5-3 final. The two teams then went to Granite City’s home ice, where the Lumberjacks (6-1) dominated on Saturday in a 10-1 game.

Granite City outshot Alexandria 34-14 on Saturday. The Lumberjacks scored three in the first period, two in the second and then blew the game open with five goals in the third. Daymin Dodge had five points to lead the way for Granite City with two goals and three assists.

Brandon Connett had Alexandria’s only goal. Bailey Rosch took the loss in net for the Blizzard after allowing all 10 goals.

The Lumberjacks grabbed a 4-1 lead through two periods on Friday night to spoil Alexandria’s home opener. Sean Davidson, Josh Baker, Carson Simon, Jonah Jangula and Bailey Sommers scored for Granite City, and Nate Johnston got the win in net with 21 saves.

Caleb Strong, Alex Heidenreich and Connett each scored for the Blizzard. Ville Hyttinen stopped 33 of the 37 shots he faced, but took the loss in net.

Alexandria had a Thursday night game in New Ulm on Thursday at 7:10. The Blizzard then return home on Oct. 19 to face Breezy Point.
