BLIZZARD TAKE 2 OF 3 GAMES ON EXTENDED WEEKEND
The Blizzard started the weekend falling at home to the Willmar Warhawks by a 5-2 final. Each team would trade goals in the first, Zach Benson for Alexandria and Gabriel Adams for Willmar. Each team would also trade goals in the second, this time Callaghan for Willmar and Kaden Roness for Alexandria. The third period would be all Willmar, as Scott Woltman and a pair of Callaghan goals sealed the deal for Willmar. Shots for the game ended up 36-28 in favor of the Blizzard. Kyle Abrahamson took the loss stopping 23 shots.
The Blizzard rebounded on Saturday night ending their losing streak by defeating the Minnesota Moose 5-3. Two goals from Caleb Waller led the Blizzard and put an end to Minnesota’s 10 game winning streak. Markus Olson tied the game late in the 2nd period to give the Blizzard a lift heading into intermission. Zach Benson would score the eventual game winner with just under 5 minutes to play and Ashton Collings would score on an empty net to seal the win. The Blizzard outshot the Moose 45-34 in the game and Jayden Serene picked up the win in net stopping 31 Shots.
The Blizzard finished off the weekend on a high note during the Sunday matinee with the Moose. A three-point night from Caleb Waller paced the Alexandria Blizzard to a 7-3 win. The game was tied 3-3 after two periods. The Blizzard would explode for 3 goals in the opening 5 minutes of the 3rd to put the game on ice. John Dube had two goals of his own while Eli Fletcher and Jackson Miller each had a goal and an assist. Connor Zgoda also got on the scoresheet for Alexandria. The Blizzard once again outshot the Moose 45-42. Kyle Abrahamson stopped 39 shots to earn the win in between the pipes.
The Blizzard now sit in second place in the Western Division and will be on the road this weekend to take on the MN Wilderness.
