Blizzard Sweep Milwaukee

After starting the season with 5 straight road games, the Blizzard enjoyed their first weekend at home welcoming the Milwaukee Power for back to back games.

Friday night the Blizzard seized momentum halfway through a 2-2 game with four goals in the final 10 minutes of the 2nd period, then tacked on two more in the 3rd for an 8-3 victory. Cole Klingbeil led the way for the Blizzard with a 4 point night ( 1G, 3A ) Joe Gronholz scored twice and added an assist, and Alex Heidenreich also had a 3 point night. Michael Debrito, Ryan Hadland, each scored and Ethan Moerke, along with Erick Sanborn potted their 1st Junior Hockey goals. Joey Greilich made 28 saves for his 2nd victory in net.

Saturday night was much closer but the Blizzard prevailed with a 4-3 victory. Michael Debrito gave the Blizzard an early lead scoring his 3rd of the season just 2 minutes into the game. Ben Tschida and Matt Scribner picked up the assists. After a Milwaukee goal, Ryan Hadland gave the Blizzard a 2-1 lead with his 5th of the season off assists from Matt McIntyre and Sean Kenny. Debrito extend the Blizzard lead to 3-1 with a power play goal two minutes into the 2nd period with assists from Kaden Peterson and Sean Kenny. Milwaukee scored early in the 3rd but the Blizzard got another power play goal this time from Ben Tschida who was all alone in front to put the Blizzard up 4-2. Kenny and Hadland assisted on Tschida’s 2nd of the season. Milwaukee went down swinging though as they scored a late one, but Andrew Tuttle shut the door for his 1st victory in net stopping 29 of 32.

The Blizzard will travel to Willmar on Friday and then host New Ulm on Saturday for Best Christmas Ever Night with a portion of ticket proceeds going to help families in need this Christmas.
