BLIZZARD SWEEP GRANITE CITY

Feb 20, 2023

Alexandria swept the Granite City Lumberjacks over the weekend in their home and home series.
Friday night in Sauk Rapids the Blizzard scored two power play goals and one shorthanded goal en route to a 5-0 shutout of the Lumberjacks. Ryan Hadland opened the scoring midway through the 1st period with his 28th of the season with assists from line mates Hayden Demars and Sean Kenny. Charlie Larsen added a power play goal four minutes into the 2nd period. Jameson O’Flynn and Jack Whitmore assisted on Larsen’s 8th of the year. Wyatt Johnson made it 3-0 with a shorthanded goal from Justin Wasvick to close out the period. Matt McIntyre and Joe Gronholz finished off the Lumberjacks with 3rd period goals. Hadland, Larsen and Demars had 2 point nights, and Konrad Kausch stopped all 24 shots for the shutout.

Saturday the series moved to Alexandria and the fans were not disappointed with a 4-3 overtime thriller. The Blizzard never trailed but the Lumberjacks kept coming back in a see-saw affair. After a scoreless 1st period the scoring heated up the 2nd. Justin Wasvick deked out Ryan Lehet for a 1-0 Blizzard after a nice passing play off the rush from Calvin Knight and Cole Klingbeil. Sean Kenny tipped in a shot from Logan Lukasezck for a 2-1, then Jameson O’Flynn made it 3-2 from another nice play off the rush from Wasvick and Michael DeBrito. The Blizzard were holding on the one goal lead throughout the 3rd period until the Lumberjacks scored late to force OT. Hayden Demars sent the crowd into hysterics with his solo rush up the ice to complete the sweep. Konrad Kausch gave another superb performance in net with 38 saves and 3rd win in as many games.
