Blizzard Sweep Final Regular Season Weekend

Jul 3, 2007

ALEXANDRIA, Minn.– The Alexandria Blizzard should feel upbeat going into playoffs as they wrapped up the regular season play with a weekend sweep over the Aberdeen Wings and the Minot Minotauros. Against the Wings, defensemen Craig Lindegard started the drive for the Blizzard as he scored at the 12:56 mark. The momentum progressed in the second period as Tucker Coborn scored another Blizzard goal followed by teammate Derek Sand to close out the second 3-0. The Wings took advantage of a power-player opportunity to sneak one past Blizzard goaltender, Michael Bitzer. Three minutes later, Reid Sturos took advantage of another Wings power-play opportunity by scoring shorthanded at the 5:42 mark. The Wings would make a noble attempt to come back midway through the third, but would ultimately fall short finalizing a 4-3 victory for the Blizzard. Against the Minotauros, the overall game tempo was slow with only a power-play goal for the Blizzard from forward Tucker Coborn in the first period. The Minotauros tied up the game in the second period. With no scoring in the third or overtime the game moved to a shoot-out. As Craig Lindegard and Thomas Williams were both successful at getting the puck in the net the Blizzard snuck by with their final regular season win, 2-1. The Blizzard will host the Austin Bruins in the first round of playoffs on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Runestone Community Center. Tickets are available at SuperAmerica (3rd Ave & Nokomis), by calling the Blizzard Business Office 320-763-7600 or by visiting alexandriablizzard.com. –end–
