BLIZZARD SPLIT WEEKEND CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT

Alexandria dominated Willmar Friday night outshooting the Warhawks 49-25 en route to a 9-1 victory. Jack Whitmore scored both 1st period goals for 2-0 lead after one. Willmar came out and scored on the first shift of the 2nd period, but the Blizzard answered with 7 unanswered including 4 in the second for the resounding win. 13 Blizzard players had points topped by Ryan Hadland’s 4 assists and Whitmore’s Hat Trick and an assist. Alex Lamont was solid again with 24 saves for this 12th victory.

On Saturday the Blizzard traveled to Breezy Point and saw their unbeaten streak shattered against the Loons. Alexandria led 2-0 after the 1st period, off two power play goals from Wyatt Johnson and Cole Klingbeil. Jack Whitmore and Ryan Hadland assisted on Johnson’s 9th of the season, and Karsten Senden picked up the assist on Klingbeil’s 17th of the year. That was all the Blizzard could score though as they couldn’t hold the lead and lost 3-2 in regulation.

Alexandria (25-10-0-2 – 52 pts) clinched a playoff spot and will travel to Wausau Friday and Saturday to take on the Cyclones. Puck drop is 7:10 both nights. Catch the action on hockeytv.com
