BLIZZARD SPLIT AGAIN ON THE ROAD

Alexandria hit the road for second straight weekend and came back with a split for the second straight weekend.

Friday night they were in New Ulm for the first time this year, and got a rude awakening from the home team, falling behind 3 goals after the first 20 minutes. The Blizzard struck first in the 2nd period with Hudson Blue and Joe Gronholz setting up Ryan Hadland to give Alexandria some life, but New Ulm came back with 3 more goals to make it 6-1 after two periods. The Blizzard kept fighting in the 3rd period though coming up with 3 goals midway through, but the comeback stalled falling 6-4. Hadland scored his 8th and 9th of the year. Joe Gronholz had a goal and an assist with Charlie Larsen and Hudson Blue chipping in two assists each.

Saturday night the Blizzard were back in Breezy Point to take on the Loons. Charlie Larsen took control late in the first period scoring his 3rd and 4th goals of the year to give Alexandria a 2-0 lead after one. Joe Gronholz opened up the 2nd period with a power play goal just a half minute into the period. Larsen and Jackson Ekblad assisted on Gronholz’s 8th of the season. The Loons broke up the shutout late in the second as the Blizzard took a 3-1 lead into the third. Karsten Senden scored another power play goal in about seven minutes in off assists from Cole Klingbeil and Justin Wasvick. The Loons scored late but it wasn’t enough as the Blizzard came away with a 4-2 victory. Larsen led all scorers with 3 points (2G 1A) and Gronholz had another multi point game. Hunter Chubb made 24 saves in his Blizzard debut to earn the victory.
