Blizzard Recap of 4 Game Homestand

The Blizzard bounced back with a 3-2 victory over Mason City back on Sunday the 20th. Andrew Tuttle made 42 saves and Matt Scribner scored two 3rd period goals to earn a split with the Toros after a 7-2 loss on Saturday. Charlie Larsen scored the lone 2nd period goal with an assist from Alex Heidenreich to tie the game 1-1 entering the 3rd. Scribner took over midway through scoring a power play off a shot from the point to give the Blizzard the lead. Cole Klingbeil and Wyatt Johnson assisted on Scribner’s 2nd of the year. Scribner scored again two minutes later off a rebound with assists from Ben Tschida and Colby Nickel. Mason City made it interesting with a late goal, but Andrew Tuttle stood strong for his 7th win.

Alexandria hosted the Loons and the Warhawks this past weekend coming away with a split with a 3-1 victory Friday against Minnesota and falling 4-2 to Willmar on Saturday.

Kaden Peterson and Ethan Moerke built a 2-0 lead midway through the 2nd period. Sean Kenny’s 34th assist along with Cole Klingbeil’s 21st set up Peterson’s 7th goal of the year. Moerke scored his 13th of the year off assists from Logan Lukasezck and Justin Wasvick. The Loons scored later in the second to pull within one but Zach DeMarce added the insurance goal in the 3rd with assists from Peterson and Matt Scribner. Bailey Rosch made 23 out of 24 saves for his 7th win.

Willmar came to town on Saturday riding a 7 game winning streak, and slipped out of town with the win streak intact after holding on to a 4-2 victory.

Ethan Moerke gave the Blizzard the lead late in the 1st period receiving a pass from Erick Sanborn at center ice and racing into the Willmar zone to beat Will Kunka on the backhand. Willmar came back with an early goal in the 2nd period, but then Wyatt Johnson gave the Blizzard the lead again knocking in his 5th of the season after a mad scramble in front from Gavin Carlson’s attempts. Alex Heidenreich picked up an assist as well. The momentum shifted back to Willmar late in the 2nd when the Blizzard were given a two man advantage but gave up a shorthanded goal for a 2-2 tie entering the 3rd. Willmar took their first lead early in the 3rd and added an empty netter for the victory.

Alexandria (23-19-1-1 – 48 pts) will close out the regular season this weekend with a home and home against the Loons.
