Blizzard Original Franchise Back in Alexandria

Apr 27, 2021

It’s been since 2012 that Alexandria has hosted a North American Hockey League (NAHL) game. That will change at the end of the month when the St. Cloud Norsemen will take on the Aberdeen Wings on Friday April 30th and Saturday May 1st at the Runestone Community Center.

The St. Cloud Norsemen are the former NAHL Alexandria Blizzard. Alexandria moved to Brookings, SD in 2012 then to St. Cloud, MN in 2019. The team rebranded as the St. Cloud Norsemen. The Norsemen are comprised of 21 Minnesota natives and 13 Division I College commitments. They are coached by Cloquet, MN hockey legend Corey Millen. The former University of Minnesota Golden Gopher, and NHL standout won a Robertson Cup Championship when he coached the Minnesota Wilderness to the title in 2015.

The Aberdeen Wings are the reigning Robertson Cup Champions and have been one of the most successful franchises over the last 3 plus years. They roster 15 Division I College commitments, and 5 Minnesota natives including Alexandria’s own Jakob Stender. The rookie defenseman has played in 42 out of 45 games and has amassed 14 points and + 24 rating.

The Norsemen currently are 8 points out of a playoff spot in the 6 team Central Division with 14 games to play. The Aberdeen Wings have only lost 3 games in regulation, one of them being to the Norsemen, and boast the highest point total across the 23 team league with a record of 41-3-0-1 – 89 pts.

Don’t miss this chance to witness the speed and skill of the NAHL right here in Alexandria. Dates and game times for this series at the Runestone Community Center (RCC) will be Friday April 30th at 7:10 pm and Saturday May 1st at 8:10 pm.
