Blizzard Lose Thriller in Shootout

Mar 11, 2021

The Blizzard hosted Granite City Wednesday night and came up just short falling in a shootout 3-2

Sean Kenny gave the Blizzard another fast start scoring his 8th of the season :18 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. Caleb Strong and Trent Sylvester picked up the assists. The score stayed that way until eight minutes into the second period when Granite City tied the it up, but Colin Tushie responded within a minute for the Blizzard scoring his 11th of the year, off assists from Dallas Duckson and Carter Rieland. That gave the Blizzard a 2-1 lead heading into the 3rd period. Granite City scored the lone goal in the 3rd to force overtime. After a back and forth extra session both goaltenders came up with dazzling saves to force a shootout. Granite City scored first, but Nikolai Rajala kept the game alive with a 3rd round goal. After a miss from each team, Granite City scored again, and then stopped the Blizzard’s final attempt for a 3-2 victory. Atticus Kelly stopped 35 of 37 shots for the Blizzard, and deserved a better fate as he made one remarkable save after another. The Blizzard picked up one point and are 4 points behind Willmar with 8 games to play.
