Blizzard Lose 4-1 to Granite City

The Alexandria Blizzard hosted Granite City Friday night at the Runestone Community Center. The Blizzard jumped out to an early lead when Nolan Westra scored his 2^nd of the season. Carter Rieland and Jack Taylor picked up the assists. Granite City tied the game a half minute later and added another goal on the power play for 2-1 lead after one. The game was halted with just under five minutes to play in the 1^st period when Shane Birkeland took a hit into the boards. Birkeland was eventually carted off, and suffered a concussion. Fortunately the Blizzard will have him back once he’s out of the concussion protocol. Alexandria could not capitalize on their 5 minute power play that resulted from the hit. Granite City added two more goals in the 2^nd period and skated away with a 4-1 win.
