Blizzard Lose 2nd Straight to Willmar

Nov 26, 2021

Alexandria hosted Willmar for the second straight game on Wednesday looking for payback after their 7-6 loss to the Warhawks last Saturday.

Willmar spoiled that chance though with a fast start en route to a 6-3 victory. The Blizzard found themselves down 3-0 with about five minutes left in the opening period, when Wyatt Johnson scored a power play goal with assists from Justin Wasvick and Matt Scribner. A couple minutes later Sean Kenny raced into the Willmar zone split the defense and while he drew a penalty, he was still able to get the puck across to Ryan Hadland who banged home his team leading 11th goal. Blaze Braswell also picked up an assist. Willmar took control in the 2nd period scoring three times for a 6-2 lead after two. Alexandria scored the lone 3rd period goal off a nice wrist shot from Justin Wasvick. Kenny and Wyatt Johnson assisted on Wasvick’s 4th of the year. That’s as close as the Blizzard got though as Willmar took over 3rd place in the Western Division. Wyatt Johnson and Sean Kenny had 2 point nights, and Bailey Rosch stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief.

Alexandria ( 9-9 – 18 pts ) will try to snap a two game losing streak when they head to Granite City on Saturday night. The Blizzard lost 3-2 on Oct 8th at Granite City in their lone game against the 1st place Lumberjacks. Alex Heidenreich and Sean Kenny were the goal scorers and Andrew Tuttle had a strong game in net with 30 saves. The puck drop is set for 7:30 pm Saturday night.

The Blizzard will be home Friday December 3rd against the Lumberjacks. Walmart and the Blizzard will be collecting non-perishable food items at the door for a donation to the Outreach Food Shelf. Everyone who donates will be entered into multiple drawings throughout the game for Walmart Gift Cards. Game time is 7:10 pm.
