ALEXANDRIA BLIZZARD SWEEP WILLMAR WARHAWKS OVER THE WEEKEND

The home team struck first with the home-and-home series with the Warhawks as Wanka scored halfway through the 1st period for Willmar. Parker Welz netted his first goal shortly after on a power play goal from Zgoda and Bisset to tie up the game. Both teams failed to produce any offense in the 2nd period but Caleb Waller took advantage of an early 3rd period power play on a play from Schmidt and Bisset to take the lead. In what would be 5 unanswered goals for the Blizzard, Kaden Roness scored at the 10:36 mark from Benson and Blake Breiland netted another power play goal with Bisset and Waller earning the assist. Breiland found the back of the net once more to make it 5-1 Blizzard for the opening game of the series. Jayden Serene stopped 34 of 35 shots.

Finally at the RCC, the Alexandria Blizzard home opener was Saturday with both teams unable to capitalize on any chances in the first period. It wasn’t until the 4:17 mark of the 2nd that Grady Stallman netted his 8th of the season with Waller and Johnson earning the assists. Caleb Waller would net his own goal shortly after in the final seconds with Johnson and Stallman also on that play. Willmar got on the board with 17 seconds left to make it 2-1 at the end of the 2nd period. Unable to produce any offense for the insurance goal or Willmar being able to tie it up, Easton Schmit secured the win with his first of the season in the final seconds and the Blizzard completed the weekend sweep of Willmar. Serene was back in net Saturday stopping 22 of 23 making him 56 of 58 on the weekend.
