Feb 8, 2024

The Alexandria Blizzard faced off with familiar foe on Wednesday as the Willmar WarHawks came to the RCC for some midweek hockey. The visitors were able to open up the scoring getting one past Jozef Zilinec at the 7:04 mark of the 1st on a McCarthy goal. Shortly after at the 9:54 mark, Ashton Collings made a great play coming down the right side to beat Willmar netminder Kai Girard with Caleb Waller getting the assist. The WarHawks were able to regain the lead on a Dean goal and took a 2-1 lead into intermission. Chris Fotopoulos came out in the second and scored his 9th of the season (on his birthday) to tie the game at 2 with Markus Olson and Zach Benson getting the helpers. Szabo was able to regain the lead for the WarHawks shortly after at the 6:31 mark of the 2nd with Matt Scribner netting the tying goal at the 18:38 mark on a power play goal for the Blizzard. Both teams exchanged chances with Willmar finally capitalizing at the 13:10 mark of the 3rd to take a 4-3 lead late in the 3rd period. Even with a late Kludt penalty, the Blizzard had a few great chances to tie the game late but Girard stood tall with Willmar taking the win at the RCC.
