Less than a minute into overtime, North Iowa’s Lucas Wahlin scored the game-winning goal. The Bulls erased a 2-0 deficit and won 3-2 on Saturday night.

Shane Birkeland scored his second goal of the season, with assists from Joe Gronholz and Alex Heidenreich, midway through the first period. Brandon Connett gave the Blizzard a 2-0 lead 13 seconds later with a helper from Michal Trejbal.

North Iowa’s Jac Triemert cut the lead in half with assists from Ryan Hempel and Jackson Vercellono late in the first period. Cam Fagerlee tied the game midway through the second.

After a scoreless third period, the Blizzard played overtime hockey for the second straight night. Wahlin’s 10th goal of the season dropped the Blizzard to 6-5-1-0.

On Friday night, the Blizzard came back from trailing 4-1 to beat the New Ulm Steel 6-5 in overtime. Carter Rieland’s fourth goal of the year started Alexandria’s weekend on a high note. Derek Dropik scored two goals on the night while Bailey Rosch came in relief of Ville Hyttinen for the win.

Alexandria has four games left on its road trip before it plays at the Runestone Community Center. The Blizzard will travel to Willmar and Rochester next weekend.
