Alexandria’s run to the Fraser Cup Championship took a harsh turn in their 6-5 loss to Granite City on Sunday. The Blizzard started strong with 3 goals in a two minute span midway through the 1st period. Michael DeBrito got the Blizzard started with a tip in goal off a shot from Jameson O’Flynn from the point for a 1-0 lead. Matt McIntyre scored moments later on a wrist shot off a pass from Justin Kingery. Then Karsten Senden skated into the offensive zone and wired a wrist shot over the Lumberjacks goalie’s blocker for a 3-0 lead. Granite City got on the board late in the 1st for 3-1 Blizzard lead after one. Matt McIntyre scored another goal this time on the power play a half minute into the 2nd for a 4-1 lead. Granite City cut the lead to 4-2 about midway through the 2nd before Hayden DeMars made it 5-2 with a heavy wrist shot that caromed off the Lumberjack goalie and into the net for his 2nd goal of the week. Linemates Joe Gronholz, and Jack Whitmore picked up the assists. From that point on Granite City scored 4 unanswered to stun the Blizzard and capture the Fraser Cup Title.
