BLIZZARD FALL SHORT AT GRANITE CITY

Dec 5, 2022

Alexandria visited Granite City on Saturday with a shot to make it two in a row over the reigning West Division Champs. It was a back and forth battle with Granite City ultimately pulling away for a 4-3 victory. The Lumberjacks struck first about six minutes into the game, but Sean Kenny quickly responded after he was sent in all alone off an up ice pass from Wyatt Johnson. Ryan Hadland also assisted on Kenny’s 5th of the season. Granite City scored a late 1st period goal and then scored right out of the gate in the second for a 3-1 lead. Alexandria again responded quickly with Cole Klingbeil scoring his 13th of the year on the power play with assists from Karsten Senden and Justine Wasvick. Then with the 2nd period winding down Joe Gronholz buried his 10th of the season on the power play to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the 3rd period. Alexandria outshot Granite City 11-7 in the 3rd but came up empty as the Lumberjacks power play goal at the six minute mark was the difference maker. Kyle Abrahamson took the loss but kept the Blizzard within striking distance with a number of big time saves.

Alexandria (11-5-0-1 – 23pts) will host the Wausau Cyclones this Friday and Saturday night. Teddy Bear Toss is Friday night with donated bears going to The Jingle Bells Foundation. Get your tickets online at tickets.alexandriablizzard.com or watch the action on hockeytv.com
