After falling in the season opener to Granite City (2-0) 4-2 on Friday night, the Blizzard picked up its first win of the season behind four second-period goals in Breezy Point.

Derek Dropik scored midway through the first period. However, Blake Crawford tied the game for the North Stars with 7:36 left.

After taking a 1-1 tie into the locker room, the Blizzard scored four unanswered goals. Nolan Westra, Chayse Haberman and Cole Lehman each scored their first goal of the season. Brandon Connett buried his second goal of the year with a helper from Caleb Strong.

The North Stars cut the lead to two midway through the third period with Mario Maietta’s second goal of the season. Alexandria stopped the comeback push when Ike Taraszewski scored with assists from Wyatt Blahosky and Connor Busse. The Blizzard went on to win 6-2.

Bailey Rosch stopped 23 shots on the way to his first junior hockey win.

Cole Jacobs led the team with four points over the weekend. Caleb Strong had three assists.

On Friday night, Blizzard fans saw a familiar face in the net. Ville Hyttinen stopped 28 shots against Granite City in the loss.

Alexandria has two more road games next weekend before its first home game on Oct. 11.
